2020년 여름에 남자친구는 대학원 졸업 논문을 쓰고 있었다. 칼데스 데 몬트부이에 위치한 정원 사례를 참고 자료로 썼다. 그 사진을 같이 보면서 좋다고 느꼈다. 그곳에 같이 가서 실제로 그 정원을 보았다. 나는 나보코프의 백합 비유를 좋아한다. 시력이 좋아지듯 앎이 세계를 선명하게 만드는 것. 의미 없던 것이 윤곽이 잡히면서 의미를 가지게 되는것. 계기는 언제나 사랑이다.
It was summer 2020. J, my boyfriend, was writing his MA dissertation. He referenced a case of a garden in Caldes de Montbui. He showed me some pictures of the garden. I loved it. In the winter of 2021 J and I went there to see the garden in person. Nabokov once used lilies as an example to talk about our recognition of the world. Knowledge makes the world crispier as if our vision got better. Something that has no meaning before gets meaning as it becomes more familiar to us. It’s always love that can make this happen.
